How to convert FL Studio to Ableton Live

An FL Studio .flp and an Ableton Live .als describe the same ideas — channels, patterns, clips on a timeline — in incompatible formats. Doseedo converts between them natively: upload the .flp, download an .als that opens in Live with the arrangement intact.

The usual workarounds, and their cost

Producers moving from FL to Live are usually told to bounce every channel to a stem and drag the stems into Live. It works — and it throws away the project. Every pattern becomes frozen audio, MIDI stops being editable, and the session becomes a remix job instead of a continuation. Exporting a MIDI file keeps the notes but loses the arrangement and all the audio.

What a native conversion keeps

Doseedo reads the .flp's playlist and rebuilds it in Live's format: pattern clips become MIDI clips at the same arrangement positions, audio clips become audio clips with their samples bundled in the project's Samples folder, and each FL channel becomes a Live track with its volume, pan and mute state. Zip the project folder (.flp + audio files) to bring recordings along.

What carries over — and what doesn't

FL Studio conversion is the newest direction in Doseedo's converter, and the copy here is deliberately honest. What arrives editable: tempo and time signature, the playlist arrangement (every pattern becomes a clip at its real position — not a pile of unplaced patterns), MIDI notes with velocities, audio clips placed where they were with the samples bundled alongside, markers, and per-channel volume, pan and mute with one mixer lane per source track.

What doesn't carry yet: plugin and instrument state (tracks arrive named and placed, instruments empty), automation curves, sends, and audio warping/stretch (clips place at their natural length). If your project leans on those, expect to rebuild them in the destination — the arrangement, notes and audio will be waiting.

FAQ

Can you convert an FL Studio project to Ableton Live?

Yes. Upload a .flp (or a zip of the project folder with its audio) and download a native Ableton Live .als project — playlist arrangement, MIDI, audio clips, tempo, markers and channel levels arrive editable in Live.

Can Ableton Live open FL Studio files?

No. Live can't read .flp files and FL Studio can't export a Live set. Converting the project format is the only way to keep it editable — Doseedo rebuilds the .als natively.

Does the audio come with the conversion?

Yes, if you zip the FL project folder (the .flp plus its audio files) and upload the zip. The converted Ableton project ships with the samples in its Samples folder. A bare .flp converts the structure only.

What about FL plugins like Sytrus or FLEX?

Instrument and effect state doesn’t carry yet — tracks arrive named, placed and full of their MIDI, with instruments to re-pick in Live. Automation and sends also need rebuilding.
