How to get an MP3 out of an FL Studio project
Somebody sent you an .flp and you want to hear it. Opened in FL Studio on your own machine it comes up with empty channels wherever their third-party plugins were, and those channels render as silence — none of the plugins are inside the file. A converter cannot supply them either. What comes out of the file is the music as written, and what plays it here is a bank of modelled instruments.
- Add your .flp: It is read where it sits: the card says nothing has been uploaded yet, and nothing has been. Signed out is fine for this half of the job.
- Give each track a player: A freshly read project has notes and no audio yet, so the studio opens on the instrument palette — thirty-six modelled instruments, a different one per track. That render runs on a GPU, which needs a free account.
- Bounce it to MP3: File → Export audio…, with MP3 as the format. The master mix renders offline, faster than real time, and lamejs — a JavaScript build of LAME — writes the file at 256 kbps without it leaving the page.

Can I convert my .flp straight to MP3?
No. There is no audio in an .flp to transcode, so no tool can read one and hand back the record it made — what happens instead is that the notes come out and modelled instruments play them. The exact mix exists on exactly one machine: the one with FL Studio and the plugins on it.
Do I need an account?
Yes, a free one, for the render. Reading an .flp to notes happens in your browser while signed out and nothing is uploaded; playing those notes on modelled instruments is a GPU job, and that is the step the account is for.
Will it sound like my plugins?
No. The generators the project names are not in the file and are not hosted on any server here — nothing anywhere in this system loads one for you. The writing survives the trip; the patch does not.
I already have the project folder — can that be bounced?
Yes. File → Import session → From FL Studio… takes the whole folder: the project document goes to the import service to be read, and each audio clip plays from the copy already on your disk, at its position and under its track name. No instrument is rendered on that route, and it needs the same free account.

Every sound in an .flp belongs to something else
An .flp names its sounds; it does not contain them. What a channel stores is a generator's identity and its knob settings — a few kilobytes of state meant for a program somewhere else on the disk. FL's own File → Export is bound by the same fact, which is why it renders the record only on the machine that has FL and everything the project reached for; anywhere else those channels come out as silence. A converter has it worse still: there is no signal in the file to transcode, no mixdown hiding in a header, no cached bounce to lift out. What the file does hold, in full, is the composition — every note, where it falls and how hard.
A performance of the notes, not a copy of the record
Once the notes are out, each track is handed to one of thirty-six modelled instruments and played — velocity read as timbre rather than as a level, which is the difference between a part that sounds played and one that sounds triggered. What that makes is a re-performance, and it is worth naming it as one. The arrangement is the project's, down to the note lengths and the tempo it was written at; the sound is the model's, NOT the patches the .flp names. Send it to a collaborator as a demo of the writing and it does its job. Send it to anyone as the record and it lies. The record can only come out of FL Studio.
One bitrate, and one thing to keep straight
256 kbps is the only bitrate on offer here: no slider, no quality menu, nothing to get wrong. A four-minute track lands close to 8 MB — one stereo file that plays on a phone, in a car, in a message, on a submission form. Bit depth does not enter into it, which is why the export's depth control disappears the moment you choose MP3: depth belongs to PCM and an MP3 has none to set. The thing to keep straight is generation loss. Re-import an MP3 bounce, export again, and a signal that has already been encoded is encoded a second time — the second pass starts from what the first threw away. Bounce WAV to keep working, MP3 to send.
