How to get a WAV out of an FL Studio project

You need audio out of an .flp — a file to send a mixer, open in another DAW, or carry on working in. The project file carries none: every sound in it is a generator plugin, or a sample referenced by a path that only resolves on one computer. What it carries is the writing. That is what gets played here, and what gets written to WAV.

  1. Add your .flp: The project is read where it sits — not uploaded, and not turned into anything yet. What comes back is a list of tracks with notes in them and no sound attached to any of them.
  2. Pick the instruments: Nothing that came out of the project says what a channel should sound like, so each one is given a player from the palette of thirty-six. That is the step that makes audio, it runs on a GPU, and it is what the free account is for.
  3. Export WAV or stems: File → Export audio… renders the session offline and writes the master mix, or every audible track as its own WAV in a zip. The mix carries track and bus gain, pan, the master fader, region gains and fades; a stem carries its own gain, pan and position and nothing from the bus or the master. Automation lanes, aux sends, live plugin chains and time-stretch are not rendered either way.

Can I convert my .flp straight to WAV?

No. A file converter has nothing to work on — the .flp stores a project, NOT a signal, and no server here hosts the plugins that made the sound. For the real mix, bounce it from FL Studio, or ask whoever sent the project for a WAV.

Do I need an account?

Yes, a free one. The .flp is parsed on your machine signed out, but bouncing means a GPU render, and the daily free runs are counted against an account.

Can I choose the bit depth?

Yes — 16-bit, 24-bit or 32-bit float, at the project rate or 44.1 or 48 kHz. The export opens on 16-bit; 24-bit is the one to move to for anything that gets mixed or mastered after this, and 32-bit float is the third option, written as floating point rather than as whole numbers.

Can I get every track as its own WAV?

Yes. Pick All stems instead of the master mix and every audible track comes back as its own WAV in a zip. A muted track is left out, because a muted track is not in the song you are bouncing.

  • What an .flp actually stores

    Open an .flp and there is no audio in it anywhere. What there is: a channel list, each channel naming a generator plugin and carrying that plugin's settings as an opaque blob; sample channels pointing at file paths; patterns of notes; and the playlist that places them. The audio path is a set of references outward — to Serum, to Sytrus, to a one-shot three folders deep in a pack you bought. Those are the parts that make the sound, and they live on the machine that made the project. So what can be lifted out and carried to a bounce is the music as written: the notes, their velocities, the tempo, the arrangement. The performance has to be made fresh.

  • Stems, and what each file holds

    A single WAV of the mix is a decision already made, and nobody downstream can take it back. That is what the stems option is for: the same offline render run once per track, handed over as a zip, every file one modelled instrument playing one of your parts. Drop the set into another DAW and they line up without a word of instruction, which is why a mixer asks for stems rather than a bounce, and asks for them in a format that takes nothing out on the way in. The container keeps that promise at the door. What it is handed is the other half of the question: the copy the session kept, encoded on save rather than held as PCM, so a stem's ceiling was set well before the export dialog opened.   • Why 24-bit, and what the size buys

    What comes out is uncompressed: 16- or 24-bit PCM, at the session's own rate or at 44.1 or 48 kHz, written in your browser by an offline render of the arrangement. 24-bit is the one to keep, and not for the reason it usually gets given — the extra depth is not loudness, and it is not room above full scale, since zero decibels is zero decibels at any depth and the writer clamps at the same ceiling either way. What it buys is a noise floor far below anything you will hear, so a quiet bounce can be lifted later without hiss rising with it. That is what a mastering engineer or a sync brief asks for. The price is size: stereo 24-bit at 48 kHz runs about 17 MB a minute, so four minutes lands near 70 MB.
