Rights and use

Adolphe Adam died in 1856, so the composition is in the public domain in the US and in the countries that protect a work for its author’s life plus 70 years. The edition this recording plays (PDMX) is released under CC0, so the notes carry no conditions either. Open it in Score Studio to time it to your video: the render you make there is yours to use, in an ad too (Terms §6.3).

About the piece

Adolphe Adam, the composer of the ballet Giselle, set Placide Cappeau’s poem Minuit, chrétiens in 1847; John Sullivan Dwight’s English version, O Holy Night, followed in 1855.

It rises slowly to one of the great climaxes in the carol book, which gives an edit somewhere to arrive.

Sounds reverent, soaring · Cuts well to emotional builds, homecomings, end-of-year films
