Replace the music in a video, keep the dialogue

Published October 2026

Temp music that never got cleared, a cue the cut has outgrown, a track a platform flagged: the music is mixed in with the voices and effects, so muting it mutes everything. Doseedo splits the soundtrack into dialogue, music and effects first, then writes a new score in the old music's place and puts the dialogue and effects back exactly as they were.

Four ways to treat the old music

Pick one under "If the film already has music" in the scoring studio before you press Score it.

What was measured

On a dialogue scene whose parts were known, replacing the music left the dialogue within 0.2 dB of the original, the effects within 1 dB, and the music dipped 14 dB under the five lines. On a scene with its own score, the old music sat 34 dB down in the printmaster after the replace (it had been almost as loud as the new score when the two were simply mixed together). The split is one pass of a model trained to separate dialogue, music and effects in film soundtracks (Bandit v2 trained on the Divide and Remaster v3 set, CC BY-SA 4.0).

What you get back

What it costs

Watching the film, mixing and delivery are free. The performances use credits, like any render on Doseedo: 10 credits for every 30 seconds of music for each group of up to six parts, and a flat 20 to split the film's own soundtrack. A one-minute scene with a mid-size orchestra is usually 60 to 140 credits; the panel shows the estimate for your film before you start, beside what you have left.

A free account comes with 120 credits a month. Pro is $12 a month with 2,000. You own what you make, to the extent the law allows (Terms §6.3).

FAQ

Can I remove music from a video and keep the voice?

Yes. The soundtrack is split into dialogue, music and effects; the dialogue and effects come back untouched and the music can be removed or replaced.

Will the dialogue sound processed?

No processing is applied to it beyond the split; on a measured scene it was within 0.2 dB of the original.

Can I get the dialogue, music and effects as separate files?

Yes, the delivery includes the dialogue, music and effects stems, plus an M&E and the printmaster.

What if the video has no music?

Then it is just scored: the split finds no music and the film's own sound is kept as it was.

Can it keep the melody but change the instruments?

Yes, that is Recreate: the same tune, harmony and tempo, re-orchestrated, for music you have the right to adapt.
