How to convert Studio One to Ableton
Updated October 2026
Convert .song to .als now
Upload a .song — or better, a zip of the song folder with its Media/ — and download a native Ableton Live .als project. 3 conversions a month free, no account.
Studio One — renamed Fender Studio Pro in version 8 — saves a song as a .song file in a song folder with its audio in Media/; Ableton Live uses .als files. Neither opens the other’s format. Doseedo converts the song itself: upload the .song, download a native Ableton Live .als project with the arrangement rebuilt.
Why there's no built-in way
Fender (formerly PreSonus) and Ableton share no project format. Ableton Live can’t open a .song, and Studio One has no Ableton export. Studio One 6.5 and later can export a .dawproject — the open DAWproject format — but Ableton Live doesn’t read DAWproject either (see which DAWs do). So the usual fallback is bouncing stems, which flattens the song. A native conversion keeps it editable.
How the conversion works
Doseedo reads the .song natively — no export step in Studio One — and rebuilds it as a native Ableton Live .als project. Zip the whole song folder (the .song with its Media/) so the audio travels; a bare .song converts the arrangement, MIDI and mixer, but its audio stays behind on your disk. Songs from Studio One 3 through Fender Studio Pro 8 read the same way.
What carries over — and what doesn't
Studio One → Ableton carries the arrangement, honestly scoped. What arrives editable: tracks with their names, volume, pan and mute; audio events with their files traveling in the song folder; MIDI notes; the tempo and time-signature maps — every change; markers; and sends.
Third-party VST and AU plugins arrive as the same plugin with their saved state. Pro EQ becomes Live’s EQ Eight with its settings; Studio One’s other built-in effects and instruments arrive by name only, and the report lists each one. Automation isn’t promised on this pair yet. Nothing is silently dropped — every conversion comes with a report of what changed.
Do I need Studio One or Ableton installed?
Not to convert. The conversion runs on the song file itself. You need Ableton Live to open the result.

FAQ
Can you convert a Studio One song to Ableton Live?
Yes. Upload a .song to Doseedo and download a native Ableton Live .als project. What arrives editable: tracks with their names, volume, pan and mute; audio events with their files traveling in the song folder; MIDI notes; the tempo and time-signature maps — every change; markers; and sends.
Does Studio One export to Ableton Live?
Not in a form Ableton Live reads. Studio One 6.5+ can export a .dawproject, but Ableton Live doesn’t import DAWproject, and it can’t open a .song. The real routes are bouncing stems (which flattens the song) or a native converter that rebuilds it — that’s what Doseedo does.
Do plugins carry over from Studio One to Ableton?
Third-party VST and AU plugins arrive as the same plugin with their saved state. Pro EQ becomes Live’s EQ Eight with its settings; Studio One’s other built-in effects and instruments arrive by name only, and the report lists each one. Nothing is faked: whatever doesn’t cross the Studio One–Ableton boundary is named in the conversion report.
Do I need Studio One installed to convert a .song?
No. The conversion works on the song itself — you only need Ableton Live to open the converted result.
