Ableton Live saves projects as .als files; Studio One (now Fender Studio Pro) saves .song files — and imports the open DAWproject format. Ableton Live writes neither. Doseedo converts the project itself: upload the .als, download a .dawproject Studio One imports, with the arrangement in place.

Why there's no built-in way

Ableton and Fender (formerly PreSonus) share no project format. Studio One can’t open an .als, and Ableton Live has no Studio One export. What Studio One does read is DAWproject — the open format PreSonus created with Bitwig — and Ableton Live doesn’t write it. So the usual fallback is stems, which flattens the project. Doseedo writes the .dawproject Ableton can’t.

How the conversion works

Doseedo reads the Ableton Live project with the same native engine as its other directions and writes one .dawproject file, with the audio inside it; Studio One / Fender Studio Pro 6.5 or later imports it. Why not a .song? Studio One’s own format isn’t publicly documented, and a file we can’t be sure opens would only look like a conversion. Zip the Ableton project folder (the .als plus Samples/) so the audio travels; a bare .als converts structure and MIDI only.

What carries over — and what doesn't

Ableton → Studio One carries the arrangement, honestly scoped. What arrives editable: tracks with their names, colours, volume, pan, mute and solo; groups as bus tracks; return tracks as FX channels fed by every send; the tempo and time-signature maps; markers; MIDI clips with every note; audio clips with their files inside the .dawproject.

VST3, VST2 and AU plugins go into the file with their saved state, and Live’s EQ Eight, Compressor, Gate and Limiter become the format’s built-in equivalents with their settings; anything else is named in the report. Automation isn’t promised on this pair yet — the report lists what came across. Nothing is silently dropped — every conversion comes with a report of what changed.

Do I need Ableton or Studio One installed?

Not to convert. The conversion runs on the project itself. You need Studio One / Fender Studio Pro 6.5 or later to import the result.

FAQ

Can you convert an Ableton Live project to Studio One?

Yes. Upload an .als to Doseedo and download a .dawproject Studio One imports. What arrives editable: tracks with their names, colours, volume, pan, mute and solo; groups as bus tracks; return tracks as FX channels fed by every send; the tempo and time-signature maps; markers; MIDI clips with every note; audio clips with their files inside the .dawproject.

Does Ableton Live export to Studio One?

No. Ableton Live has no Studio One export and doesn’t write DAWproject, the open format Studio One imports. Doseedo writes that .dawproject for you — the real project, not stems.

Do plugins carry over from Ableton to Studio One?

VST3, VST2 and AU plugins go into the file with their saved state, and Live’s EQ Eight, Compressor, Gate and Limiter become the format’s built-in equivalents with their settings; anything else is named in the report. Nothing is faked: whatever doesn’t cross the Ableton–Studio One boundary is named in the conversion report.

Do I need Ableton Live installed to convert to Studio One?

No. The conversion works on the project itself — you only need Studio One / Fender Studio Pro 6.5 or later to import the .dawproject it writes.
