How to score a film automatically
Published November 2026
A soundtrack can now be made from the video itself: the cut goes in, and music written to its cuts, its scenes and its dialogue comes out. This guide walks through how that works, what to expect from the sound and what to check before you choose a service. Doseedo does it two ways, in a browser scoring studio or from an AI assistant connected to its film-scoring MCP server, and either way returns the scored video and the full mix with every instrument part as a stem, its MIDI and a Logic Pro or Ableton Live session.
Scored this way
Scored through the studio, nothing touched by hand. The whole reel.
Spring (2019). Silence through the dark forest, then a solo-piano lullaby in D minor on the first glowing spirit, taken up by the cello as the crook blooms and released into D major as the clouds open. How it was scored · Score this film yourself

Artemis I launch (2022). One trailer cue in D minor: a rim-tick clock on the pad, a brass braam on the ignition frame, a 3+3+2 ostinato through the climb and a full slam on the cut to the black sky. How it was scored · Score this film yourself

How automatic film scoring works
- Upload the edit. Use a finished scene, short, trailer, advertisement or campaign video.
- Set the musical direction. Choose a sound such as orchestral, thriller, comedy or documentary. Add a short brief for themes, mood, or moments to emphasize.
- Analyze picture and sound. The system finds cuts, reads shot characteristics, proposes cue boundaries and hit points, and can separate existing dialogue, music and effects.
- Compose and place cues. An AI composer writes instrumental parts to the timing of the edit; the music is laid against picture and dipped under dialogue.
- Review and deliver. Request a change to an individual cue, then download the scored video, printmaster, M&E and stems.
What “high quality” means in practice
Listen to complete examples made from real edits, including dialogue scenes and different genres, before deciding whether the sound fits your release. Doseedo’s instrument models are trained on real recordings, and the score is written as individual parts that can be exported as stems or a Logic Pro or Ableton Live project. This is not a session orchestra: exposed solo parts can sound different from a live recording, and the page describes those limits openly.
For a polished result, give a specific brief, mark the moments that matter, listen on the intended playback system, and revise cues that do not serve the picture.
What you receive
- The scored film: your picture, copied untouched, with the new soundtrack (MP4 with AAC 320k, or a MOV with 24-bit PCM if that is what you sent).
- The printmaster: the whole mix as a 24-bit, 48 kHz WAV, normalized to the delivery loudness you pick (web −16, streaming −14 or broadcast −23 LUFS) with the true peak under the limit.
- An M&E: music and effects without the dialogue, for a dub or a trailer.
- Dialogue, music and effects stems, when your film had a soundtrack of its own.
- Every cue's mix and every part as its own stem, with the notes it played, on a timeline you can keep editing.
- A Logic Pro or Ableton Live project of the whole score, one button from the studio.
- A music cue sheet (CSV): each cue's timecode in and out, its length and its use, as it was placed on the film, ready for a festival, a broadcaster or your performing-rights society.
Connect a film-scoring service to an AI assistant
Doseedo has a dedicated hosted MCP endpoint for film scoring. Add https://api.doseedo.com/mcp/film as a custom connector in an MCP-compatible assistant, then ask it to analyze the video, prepare a cue sheet, score the cues, mix them and deliver the result. The step-by-step MCP guide shows the connection and a complete scoring run. You can also upload a cut in the browser scoring studio without setting up an assistant.
Compare the handoff, not just the soundtrack
Video-aware scoring is no longer unique to one product. ElevenLabs generates music and synchronized sound effects from uploaded video, with music and effects available as separate files. Sonilo generates music from video, supports an MCP connection, and its API can split a generated track into four broad groups: drums, bass, vocals and other. ACE Studio’s Video Composer places editable generated clips on its own timeline and lets users export sounds. Those are useful workflows; check each current plan and output format.
Doseedo’s handoff is built around an orchestrated score: the full soundtrack on the picture, a printmaster, M&E, each written instrument part as a stem, its MIDI, and a Logic Pro or Ableton Live project. That part-level handoff is the distinction to evaluate when you need to keep editing the arrangement in a DAW.
Films, trailers and advertisements
The same picture-led workflow can score a short film, documentary, trailer, commercial or social video. For an advertisement, describe the brand mood and point the composer to the product reveal, voiceover or end card. For a longer narrative film, work cue by cue and request additional cues as needed.
See the dedicated guide to AI music scoring for advertisements, or compare the scored film examples.
How to choose an AI film-scoring service
- Check that it composes to your actual video edit, not just a text prompt.
- Listen for synchronization to cuts, dialogue handling and coherent themes across cues.
- Check whether you can revise individual cues and download separate stems.
- Review accepted video formats, output loudness, delivery files, pricing and usage terms.
- Judge the result from full-length examples in a similar genre and use case.
Make a soundtrack for a film automatically
How to score a film automatically, how to make a soundtrack for a video, generating a soundtrack from a video and composing film music with AI are questions about the same steps: read the picture, write music to it, play it, mix it under the dialogue and put it back on the film. This page walks through those steps, and the studio runs them.

Is there a service that automatically makes soundtracks for films?
Yes. Doseedo is an online AI film-scoring service. Upload a film, short, trailer or ad and it writes instrumental music to the edit, mixes it under speech and returns the scored video, full mix, instrument stems, MIDI parts and a Logic Pro or Ableton Live project.
Can I connect a film-scoring service to ChatGPT or another AI assistant?
Doseedo provides a film-scoring MCP server at https://api.doseedo.com/mcp/film for MCP-compatible assistants. Add it as a custom connector, then ask the assistant to spot a video, render the score and deliver it.
Do other tools also score directly to video?
Yes. ElevenLabs, Sonilo and ACE Studio document video-aware soundtrack workflows. They differ in editing controls and deliverables. Compare whether you need a finished mix, broad stem groups, part-by-part stems, MIDI or a DAW project.
What is different about Doseedo’s output?
Alongside the finished video and printmaster, Doseedo returns each written instrument part as its own stem, the MIDI parts and a Logic Pro or Ableton Live project, so the score can continue to be edited in a DAW.
Can AI music follow the cuts in my film?
Doseedo analyzes cuts and proposes cue timings and hit points, then composes and places the score against the edit. You can direct the moments that matter and revise cues.
Can I score an advertisement this way?
Yes. The same workflow supports commercials and other short videos. Give a brief about the brand tone, voiceover, product reveal and end card.
Will the result sound like a live orchestra?
Doseedo uses instrument models trained on real recordings, not a session orchestra. Listen to its demos to judge the sound; exposed solo parts can differ from live players.
What do I get besides the finished video?
A printmaster, an M&E, separate dialogue, music and effects stems when the original soundtrack is split, cue mixes, instrument stems and a Logic Pro or Ableton Live project.
