Sources and the dø1 plugin
Sources are instruments trained on recordings of real players. You give one a part and it plays it, phrasing and all, instead of firing a sample for every note. Now you can use them right inside your DAW.
The 15 sources
We started with the instruments that usually sound the worst coming out of MIDI:
- Winds: clarinet, flute, soprano sax, saxophone, baritone sax
- Brass: trumpet, trombone, French horn
- Strings: violin, cello
- Bass: electric bass, double bass pizzicato, double bass arco
- Guitar: acoustic guitar, electric guitar
No keyswitches, no articulation maps. You can hear all of them on the Sources page, or run your own part through them in the browser at /tools/sources.
The dø1 plugin
dø1 puts Sources in your DAW. Put it on a MIDI track, play the part, pick a source and hit render. The audio comes back on the track, in time with your session.
- AU and VST3 on Mac. A Windows VST3 is coming.
- Works in Logic, Ableton, FL Studio, REAPER, Cubase and Studio One. Pro Tools needs AAX, so it's not on the list yet.
- Chords get split up. Write a chord for violin and each note becomes its own part and renders on its own, so you don't get one violin trying to play four notes at once.
Included with Pro
dø1 comes with Pro, which also gets you Dø Desktop. Plans are on the plugin page.
